The Best
"I dont need a web site" reasons.

In the last few years I have seen many small businesses - it would be close to 1000 if I counted them all. I would not be telling the truth if I said I always received a warm welcome from many business owners; in fact I get told to take a hike quite a bit (it seems most people don’t like anybody who resembles a sales rep).

Now I need to tell you, I do my research before I go and see every business, this means I know who has web sites, who doesn’t, and how effective the web sites are (for those that have them).

There are some people who are addiment they do not need a web site regardless of how many facts and figures I give them; I thought I might share some of the reasons why people don’t think they need small business web sites.
  • I don’t need a web site because I don’t have a computer…
This is one of my all time favourites, its not really about you.. 97% of your customers do have computers and are using it to access the Internet. You probably need to invest in a computer and check it out.
  • We don’t need a web site because we have never received any orders from the Internet..
How would you get an Internet Order if you don’t have a web site (At this point I was asked to leave).
  • Our business is all local, a web site wouldn’t add any value..
Unless your 85 yrs old most people use the Internet to track down phone numbers, etc (it’s the new Yellow pages), if I cant find you on the Internet then I guarantee your customers are grumbling about it; the other thing to consider is why is your business local only; why aren’t people in neighbouring towns buying from you? Do you have a way of advertising to them? You need a web site.
  • Our customers don’t use the Internet..
97% of every small businesses customers use the Internet, have you asked them?
  • None of my competition have web sites..
If your competition decided to only open on Mondays and Wednesdays would you do the same? In my business I try and do things the competition is not doing, it’s what I call a great opportunity.
  • I’ve tried web sites before, they don’t work, and they cost a lot of money..
That means you have used the wrong people to do it.. At this point I usually point them in the direction of our “How to create a successful Small business web site” article.
  • We are planning to build a web site, but we are getting my brother in law to do it (he’s a mechanic) but he wants to learn..
My 6yr old grandson wants to be a race car driver, but I don’t let him drive my car (not yet at least), next time I visit these people they either haven’t started yet or tell me “Web Sites don’t work”.
